Giesen vs Probat vs Loring: Which Roaster Brand Is Right for You?

Three respected drum roaster brands, three different design philosophies. Here's how they actually differ day to day.

All three are capable of excellent coffee. The differences that matter are in control philosophy, parts availability, and how each machine behaves at the edges of its capacity range.

Giesen — precision and digital control

Giesen's strength is repeatability. Digital profile logging and consistent build quality across its range make it easy to hand a profile to a second roaster and get the same result. UK parts stock is strong, which keeps downtime short.

Probat — proven mechanical simplicity

Probat machines are built to run for decades, and many working roasteries still run 20-plus-year-old units. Control is often more manual, which suits roasters who want direct mechanical feedback over automated profile playback.
